Now and Then

Image
My lavender and wheat bags made from Amy Butler fabric are now on sale at Now & Then in Havelock North. Juliette has opened a fabric studio at her home but also sells lots of very beautiful "must haves" sourced from New Zealand and around the world. I will also be selling a range at Redcurrent in Havelock North and Wellington from the end of next week.

Last Week

Image
Last Saturday we drove over the Gentle Annie to stay a couple of nights at my godson's holiday home in Ohakune . We drove past the beautiful Mount Ruapehu at about six in the evening and stopped to take this photo. The first of many that we took over our two days of rest and relaxation and one slightly challenging walk. Its not far, my husband said, and very easy! Last Monday, we drove home again to be welcomed, late afternoon, by this gorgeous autumn scene on the driveway leading to the house. Last Wednesday, I finished the quilt for baby Isabelle and posted it off on Friday. Last Friday, yesterday, Nic and I had a drive out to The Paper Mulberry Cafe for a fix of their excellent date scones. Their coffee is very good too. We sat outside, at a table that was once an old blue door, the sun shining on a perfect autumn day with views across the countryside. At that point, life seemed pretty good. Last week sometime, I started to pick up and eat the feijoas from the orchard -

Last Market Stall

My last Sweet Mary stall is operating outside Linens to Love on the corner of Tennyson and Market Streets, Napier tomorrow from 9.30 - 1p.m. I hope to re-open in the spring on Labour Weekend.

Easter Time

Image
Happy Easter everyone, with special wishes to our families and friends around the world. My latest Easter decoration to add to my collection - yes, another one, is the cute felted wool rabbit and eggs (?) from a local shop. Thanks to those who have sent cards - my favourite being the one above, with the prettiest spring look to it. Even though we are in autumn here in New Zealand I can still appreciate that Easter and Spring belong together.

Lavender Hearts

Image
With all the other things I make it has been easy to forget that the mainstay of Sweet Mary has always been my lavender hearts so it was nice to get a mention on this website - its a 'charming' story and kind of nice to know that a lady in Rajasthan is treasuring one of my hearts.

Who is Sweet Mary?

Kate Newton from the Hawke's Bay Today newspaper did a feature on me and my 'handmades' in last weekends' 48 Hour section - a big thankyou to Kate for her support with a really well written article. I was delighted with it and received lots of good feedback from new and old customers. DOUBLE CLICK ON ABOVE PHOTO TO READ IN LARGER FORMAT

Handmade

Image
Packing up my home-made Rose and Lavender Potpourri ready for my stall outside Linens to Love ( see left for address ) in the morning. I love my new red and white twine and snappy red and white stripe bags. Not sure how many of these lavender doves I have now made but I can see them in my sleep. They are made out of wool felt and filled only with New Zealand grown lavender and would make a geat gift at Easter or for a child or both.
