Pretty Things

Three fabric covered wire clothes hangers - so far I only have one set of these to sell. They are the sort of hangers that would be ideal to hang flimsy or strappy clothes from as the cotton fabric stops them slipping off. The clever couple who are Coulter&Coulter , hand printed lavender stalks onto this soft cotton fabric. I have made lavender filled sachets with this beautiful print (thanks Nic!)and backed them with squares of vintage barkcloth and wrapped them for market in stacks of three. Don't forget! Craft&Design Market 4, held around Hawthorne coffee, 23 Napier Road. Saturday 22nd October. 9.00am - 12.30pm. CASHandCHEQUEonly .

Lavender Harvest

Image
Oh heck! I wrote this blog a few hours ago, came back to look for comments ( there wern't any!!!) to find I had uploaded two photos of the same scene. I tried to delete the spare photo and deleted the whole post! So,I will try to remember what I wrote: For the last couple of weeks I have known that my lavender plants needed harvesting of their beautiful purple tipped fronds. I threw these fifteen plants into plastic buckets when we moved house last year at short notice. They have been in these buckets ever since and despite this I get a pretty decent amount off them on a regular basis over the warmer months. This is my haul from two thirds of the bucketed lavender. I will dry it in bunches to sell on my Sweet Mary stall next year. I may even get the rest of it cut tomorrow. It is a time consuming task but one I do enjoy. You can sort of drift off, listening to the radio and smelling the sweet smelling lavender. I buy in the lavender rubbings that are used in some of my Sweet Ma...

Last Night and Today

Image
Last night I ran a Sweet Mary stall along with a dozen or so other stall holders as part of a fundraiser for a local kindy. All the stalls looked great and the people visiting were lovely but it wasn't the greatest night in the way of sales. What was great was talking to people who stopped by my stall and getting myself in the mood and fired up for the fairs to come over the spring and summer. The next one for me is The Central Hawkes Bay Festival. I will be one of many stalls at the Pukeora Estate from Sept. 3-6. It promises to be fabulous! Click here for details. Annie balancing effortlessly on a fence post watching the sheep... The sheep watching us watching them. Not sure what the lambs are nibbling on but it must have been something delicious. We are surrounded by apple orchards and each spring a few sheep and their lambs are left in the paddock and feijoa orchard to eat grass and generally tidy up and feed the vegetation. This is the view from my kitchen window - not bad.
